Tonight was our big meeting. Unfortunately, we were late. Noah has a procedure done every other day and there was a complication that held us up. I started his procedure not long after four so he should have been done by 5:15 to 5:30 at the latest. He wasn't off the toilet until 5:50.
We were all very excited for this meeting but a little nervous going and meeting so many that we hadn't met before.
Two of the three women that visited us for interviews were there, and maybe eight or nine other people. We did introductions and were congratulated on being the family selected. I am still trying to recall names of the people we met. It is going to take a while. There are more still to meet. Some members couldn't be there tonight. I am sure we'll meet them soon enough.
One of the first things were were told was the property was purchased. That was fast! Friday the property was being considered and today we find out it was bought. The closing date for the sale is June 23. A survey has to be done on the land and things will start after that. We were told a ground breaking ceremony will be held in about 6 weeks or so. At that time pictures will be taken. I am not sure for what but I do remember a few years ago seeing a picture in the paper and someone with a shovel.
We didn't see any designs or plans but we will be contacted to go see some soon. While we were there Noah asked for paper. Tim, the architect gave Noah paper and something to draw with. Noah drew for him what our house should look like. Tim told him that they could compare designs when he is done.
Everyone that we met seemed really friendly and excited for us. There was a fruit and dessert tray for everyone to enjoy while we all mingled and tried to get to know each other a bit.
After a little while some people had to leave so we were told that whenever they meet, which is every two weeks, they open the meeting in prayer and close in prayer, so they prayed.
The treasurer was very friendly and Kaitlyn seemed to like him. He was joking around with her and gave her the job of filling the dumpster and whenever it was full to call his office to be sure that it was emptied. That is a great job for her too. He said to bring all your friends and have them help you fill the dumpster. She laughed. Kaitlyn is our garbage girl. ;)
There were pictures for us to view of the homes that had been built in Saint John by Habitat. Each one very nice and yet very different from the others.
Wilfred was given a business card and told to call someone about being on the building committee. He'll probably call tomorrow and see when that committee meets. I don't think that it is something that happens for all Habitat builds but because Wilfred works in the construction industry, that would be a good place for Wilfred to volunteer for Habitat.
Afterwards, we drove by the property to show Joshua. He was the only one in the family not to have seen it yet. Joshua and Kaitlyn got out of the van and walked around the property. It is hard to imagine a house there but we'll see one soon enough.
Everyone was given a t-shirt and Joshua liked his so much he is wearing his to a field trip tomorrow. Noah is wearing his to school and Kaitlyn is taking hers for her friends at school to sign it. The shirts say Habitat For Humanity Saint John Inc. and are white. She wants to hang it on her wall in her new bedroom. Kristine of course is saving hers for the build.
